Another Successful More Than Ever Education Fund Luncheon

May 8, 2018

Dear Family and Friends,
Applauding you for your financial and/or moral support of the More Than Ever Education Fund in memory of Gregory Maire, as administrated by La Casa Norte, a premier Chicago area not-for-profit supporting youth and families confronting homelessness.

Approximately 150 people attended the luncheon and we raised over $50,000.00 for the Youth in College Program which currently is supporting 25 students. In the three years since the MTE Education Fund began, we have raised close to $150,000.00.

I wish you could see in person, the faces of these students as they radiate love, joy, self-confidence, and gratitude as they look towards a hopeful future. Thank you so much for being there for us.

If you were planning on making a donation but haven’t gotten around to it yet, please mail your check, made payable to the MORE THAN EVER EDUCATION FUND, to La Casa Norte, 2845 West Mc Lean, Chicago, Illinois 60647.

You can also donate online: CLICK HERE (Opens in a new window)

Again, thank you so much,
Fondly,
Michael

MTE EdFund Inaugural Luncheon: Part I

Just a brief report to whet your appetite for more. Approximately 150 people attended the event.

The first scholarships were awarded to three very deserving young people. Each scholarship was for $2,500.00. By the end of the year there will be 25 young people in the MTE Ed Fund program.

Besides the initial scholarships, there are funds set aside for the next three years to see the students through to the end of their studies.

La Casa Norte, with availability to them of the fund, also received guaranteed housing vouchers from the city.

In addition, they also received a grant to hire three more people to provide support which will help insure student success through providing study skill help, group social skills support, emotional counseling, life skills training, medical and dental assistance, and all those things that go into helping to create success for our future citizens.

People were moved by the documentary ALZHEIMER'S: A Love Story which helped to put a face on the MTE EdFund and bring home the story of Gregory and Michael who were the catalysts for the fund which looks to be growing exponentially already.

The room was beautifully set with 15 tables of 10 each and centered with a beautiful fresh flower arrangement. There was a raffle table, a table selling Michael's Poetry books with the proceeds going to the fund, and a table with Gregory's Photo and a dish of rocks for people to place in front of the photo as a remembrance.

In the next few days, I'll post some of the feedback received, Michael's comments at the luncheon, and many more photos. Meanwhile here are some photo "backgrounds" which were taken before the event began.
