Some Random Thoughts Today

Emma plays with a red and blue puff ball approximately 1½" in diameter. She thinks it is her mouse, her prey.

Like most cats, she likes to show off her prey so she screams loudly as she carries the ball around the living room. She screams so loud that when I am on the phone, people often ask what is happening and probably think I am torturing her! I am not.

Unlike most cats, she loves to play fetch with the puff ball. We can spend long period of times with me throwing it across the room and her chasing it madly, picking it up in her mouth screaming, and then bringing it back to me, dropping it at my feet.

Gigi, on the other hand, and in keeping with her personality, will pick up the blue and red puff ball, bring it into the room, drop it by my feet, look up at me, and finally ... quietly ... walk away. Mission accomplished Gigi style!

When I wake up during the middle of the night too pee and an unusual time is showing on my digital clock, I like to think that it is a "hello" or "nod" from Gregory. Last night I awoke to 2:22 and also at the bottom of the clock noticed the date: February 2. 2:22 on 2/2!  Hi Greg!

Last night I had two dreams in which Gregory figured prominently. When he shows up in my dreams,  usually we do not interact but his presence is there and it is good to be with him.

One: I was at a party at long time friends and owners of Prairie Joe's restaurant in Evanston on Central Street, Aydin Dinner and Diane Ubl-Dincer. Aydin's mother was making flowers out of colored paper which were beautifully professional looking. Gregory was at dinner with me.

Two: I went into our bedroom at home (where I was actually sleeping) and Gregory was sitting there reading a book. I got what I came in the room for and left.

With all the "STURM und DRANG" of Trump as POTUS, I don't know what to think anymore!

Sturm und Drang comes from German, where it literally means "storm and stress." Although it’s now a generic synonym of "turmoil," the term was originally used in English to identify a late 18th-century German literary movement whose works were filled with rousing action and high emotionalism, and often dealt with an individual rebelling against the injustices of society. The movement took its name from the 1776 play Sturm und Drang, a work by one of its proponents, dramatist and novelist Friedrich von Klinger. Although the literary movement was well known in Germany in the late 1700s, the term "Sturm und Drang" didn’t appear in English prose until the mid-1800s.

On a daily basis, I realized that I have actively been reading about, studying, and trying to understand and come to some conclusions about what is happening at the White House and how it will affect my country and how it will affect me! I also realized that I DO NOT WANT TO BE SPENDING THIS MUCH ENERGY TRYING TO MAKE SENSE OUT OF NONSENSE! I do not want to be trying to outguess, to figure out, to decide how to respond actions  to the POTSUG (President of The Strum und Drang.)

I do not feel that I can ignore the POTSUG but I also realize that my emotional/mental well being is at stake! As I feel many people are doing, I need to think about how to deal with this.

One of the Two Great Miracles

One of the two great miracles as well as one of the two great mysteries. I find these thoughts of mine personally significant as I approach the one year anniversary of Gregory's death.

Many trite, often stated wonderments come to mind while holding this beautiful little girl's hand and looking at her looking at me and her world.

What makes a baby?

A sperm and a seed unite and create something that is so complex as to be deemed a mystery and a miracle! Each time that new embryo cell splits to create new cells, they know exactly what to do.

They know what they will become: a fingernail, part of the heart, an eyelash, a brain, an eye. Amazing. (Sometimes those cells are confused and difficulties arise, but that is not part of this story, just the need to acknowledge it!)

Who is a baby?

Where did that energy, that ability to become a thinking, feeling human being come from? What makes that energy separate from that of a plant, or a cat, or a rock. What makes that energy become what it will become?

With some predispositions and some loving care, that energy will flower into an amazing person. They grow up to become part of a family, a world in which they go about their business of being and contributing to the world of others,

What will that baby become?

Then at a certain point they begin to try to figure out what makes a person and what makes them who they are. They strike back, they fight back, they war their independence against their parents as they develop more and more into the person those cells are trying to help them to be.

What do they really believe when compared to what they were told when they didn't know better other than to believe what they heard? What is truth? What matters? What does not matter?

Very complex self discussions must go on if you are to become an actualized person. Doesn't always happen as we know by looking around us at our world and the world of the others around us.

What can that baby give to others?

But for the most part, it all works. The cells develop into a fully healthy person with the potential to do anything they think they can. The person develops into a fully healthy person with the potential to add to the quality of life for others.

And then it begins again for some who choose to bring another baby into the world. (This is how it works)

Either way it continues for those with open eyes. They interact with the world who they are; the world they see through their eyes and mind; hopefully the true world around them ... and develop into fully beautiful miracles and mysteries.

Over this process, many changes occur and a person lives their life. Many milestones and millstones are worn around the neck. Some weigh one down and others lift one up.

And eventually a life is lived, and celebrated, and then mourned. What makes that life? Which little part is the core of the miracle? Which little part is the core of that mystery?

What lives on after the life and what really matters? More questions. Fewer answers?

13) A Gentle Blue Embrace

14) A Miniature Memorial - A long post about the memorial ceremony that took place today. The miracle is that last night, in anticipation of todays festivities, I first awoke at 3:33 and then again at 5:55!

A Gentle Blue Embrace: Miracle #13

Miracle 13 occurred today as I was arriving home. I got onto the freight elevator after getting my mail.

During the day, the freight elevator is draped in blue quilted protection padding so deliveries and move-ins and outs will not damage the elevator walls. After 5:00, the quilts are taken down and the freight elevator becomes its lovely self as an additional vehicle to handle the ups and downs of the residents in the building.

I got on the elevator, pushed "4" for my floor, and as the doors closed I felt this flutter of a soft embrace cover my head and face. At first it frightened me but when I realized that the quilt I was standing by had released itself from the upper left hand hook which caused a corner of the pad to drape down over me while the rest stayed in place.

I laughed and said aloud, "Gregory, not funny! You scared me!" And I laughed again.

Here is photo taken awhile ago against the padding. Turns out I had the same shirt on again today!

Miracles #10 and #11

Maybe I'll do it this way. I will tell you about the latest Miracle and list the previous ones below in case you missed one or two and want to go back to read about them.

Number 10 freaked me out, so I'll start with the easy one.

Miracle 11: Last night. Awoke to pee. Checked time. 3:33 again. My favorite magical number. Only the second time in my life! Goodnight Gregory.

Miracle 10: Happened shortly before bedtime. The cats were shut in the bedroom, I had already fixed and delivered their wet food, I had already put my glass of water by my side of the bed.

But I digress. Some day I'll post a photo of the contraption I have devised to keep my water (and bed sheets) safe!

After I do not know how many times of having the rubber and metal coaster stick to the bottom of the glass, get picked up with the glass as I was about to take a drink, and fall off onto my toe before rolling under the bed, I decided to do something about it.

I found, at at Crate and Barrel, a silicon coaster that fits snugly around the bottom of  the glass. They came in six assorted colors and I use my favorite color, the green one.

After having one of the other of the cats either drink from the glass with their paw and/or having knocked the glass over in a "jump for life" type move, I found a silicone food container top that by chance fits tightly on top of my the glass so if it is tipped, the water does not spill out!

That problem solved described I will now return to the post at hand, Miracle #10. Digression completed.

All ready for bed, right before turning out the lights in the front of the condo, I decided that I was peckish, also known as hungry. So I got out my tin of Graham Crackers to have a few while leaning on the counter in the kitchen.

Across from the counter is my highly technical, General Electric Profile Stove. The top is glass and cooks with magnetic resonance heat (for which I had to purchase all new pots and pans when we moved into the condo - but I digress.)

The oven is technologically controlled by push buttons and it can heat, bake, broil on low or high, and convection (if I may use that as a verb) for one shelf of baking or multiple shelves.

I might mention here that the oven is so good that it can bake three trays of cookies; without having to shift, turn, or reverse; and the cookies come out perfectly done and even at all levels, front to back, side to side! Quite an accomplishment.

As I was munching my crackers, the stove began beeping. Remember I am and have been no where near it. When you set the oven to do something and do not finish by pressing the "START" it will remind you of your failure by beeping at you.

And you must press the buttons, brushing by them will do no good, and I had not pressed or brushed anyway!

So there I am, Graham Crackers and me, and the stove is beeping at me telling me as spelled out across the control panel window, "Press START to begin." Freaked me out. I hadn't pressed any buttons.

I went over, immediately acknowledging Gregory's presence, imagining how difficult it must have been for him to gather enough universal strength from the other side to manipulate an earthly appliance, and to thank him for the "wink, nod, hi and yet another Miracle!"

Now you might say that it could have been a power surge. I would say why now and not ever in the last eight years? Or we could say that yes it was a power surge but one wrought by a spiritual entity? That is what I chose to believe!

Also you could say it could have been any number of other spirits who might be following me around: like my mom or dad, or friends Marjorie or Marla, or any number of other entities who have died that I have attracted to my side but my best guess is that it was Gregory.

Remember my latest attitude: If I want to believe it is true, it is! And if you were here with me, and could attest to the truth in my retelling of the experience, you too would believe!

Wednesday, January 13, 2016

Last night at bedtime I was feeling very sad and missing Gregory. The tears automatically started rolling, I gave into the emotions, and started howling (keening.)

Gigi, is the kitty that Gregory picked out while mine is Emma.) Gigi has turned into my best friend while Emma just likes to get pet! Gigi is the thoughtful, taller, leaner one (just like Gregory) while Emma is the more impulsive, shorter, fatter one (just like me!)

Gigi came over to where I was sitting on the side of the bed and rubbed my leg with a "meow." She hopped up onto the bed, stood up onto my chest, and began licking my ear.

I really believe that she came over to console me and it worked. I hugged her and felt better. Gigi and I talked about life for a while, I went into the bathroom to wash my face with a hot cloth, and then I turned in for a good night sleep.

I continue to experience the "clock miracles" but will not necessarily write about them individually. Last night Gregory was really in high gear: I went to sleep at 10:10, woke at 11:11, again at 1:23, then 3:57, at 5:55, and finally at 9:10. A lot of lovely "winks and nods."

Another Miracle

Yesterday was Gregory and my 41st Anniversary. I received a miracle from Gregory or what I call "a wink and a nod"from Gregory the night before (Click here to read about it in a new window.) and another one the night of our Anniversary.

I spent our anniversary with friends Sheryl and John over a delicious Italian dinner and then a Steppenwolf play about the infidelity of a husband and wife and their dysfunctional family. It was a dark comedy, intelligently written and well acted.

The "wink and nod" occurred when I looked at the clock,  on one of my nightly "wake up pees,"which read, "1:23 AM" and the outside thermometer which read, "4 degrees."

So 1, 2, 3, 4 to us!
