Happy Birthday Condo

This July we will have been in “the condo” for three years. The transition to a 252 unit, twenty five story high rise was fairly easy. We came from a 50’ x 200’ property (also in Evanston) with the 1886 original neighborhood farmhouse with its two two bedroom rental units in the front, a beautifully landscaped and fountained court yard in the center, and the1915 Chicago style loft building with its architecture studio downstairs and our loft living space upstairs in the back.

We joke about labeling the four room, two bath condo thusly: balcony, BBQ area, garden, kitchen, food prep area, breakfast room, sitting area, dining room, G’s office, living room, bedroom, M’s office, library, huge room size walk in closet, TV room, den, guest room, and workshop.
Our condo space provides us and our cat Mariah with just enough comfortable, easy living and even though not huge we have entertained up to 40 with dinner served buffet style and July 4th fireworks observed from our balcony and from the roof deck garden just one floor below.
Neighbors in the building are a friendly, diverse and intelligent group, condo management keeps things running smoothly, front desk people welcome you and hold your delivered packages, parking in the building is secured, off unit storage helps, a bicycle room comes in handy, The Community Room is available for large parties or if unoccupied just to sit quietly by yourself on the sofa and read or watch the large screen TV. With our mortgage came membership in LA Fitness which is just two floors below our unit and includes work out, swimming pool, sauna, and all.
Living in the heart of downtown Evanston has been wonderful with its 90 plus restaurants, Whole Foods, bakery, library, post office, hardware store, 18 screen theater, art store, Barnes & Nobel, hair cutting salon, therapeutic massage center, and other shops all within walking distance. For last minute items there is a 24/7 Seven/Eleven Convenience Store in the building and a frozen yogurt shop just next to the condo entrance. The CTA train and METRA commuter line is half a block away and 30 minutes to downtown Chicago. Sometimes the car doesn’t come out of the parking garage for weeks at a time.
We consider ourselves blessed to have landed in such a wonderful place and look forward to many more anniversaries of joy to be celebrated here.
