Date: 1981
Place: The Heartland Cafe
Location: 7000 N. Glenwood, Chicago
When I lived at Lunt and Sheridan I frequented this restaurant often. It was a Hippie hang out, one of the first health food restaurants in Chicago. On the weekends there was entertainment; guitars and singers. The air conditioning in those days was so poor that they didn't bother and they always put opened cardboard boxes on the floor to catch the spills and humidity and to prevent falls.
Last night, Gregory and I attended a fundraiser for Eye Disease. We went because I received an invitation from my therapist, whose group was playing and besides being a fun evening, we thought it would be interesting to visit the Heartland after so many years.
FAST FORWARD - 30 Years
Nothing has changed. Hippie hangout. Healthy cooking. Little or no A/C. Boxes on the floor. We had a great time!
The first performer.
Gregory. Early in the evening. The place filled up by show time.
Besides an "Art Photo," notice the humidity on the pitcher and glass.
Key Lime Pie Leftovers.
