My Continued Search for God: Love Does That

If you have read some of my previous work, you will know that while I consider myself a spiritual person, I do not consider myself a religious person and am not so sure I believe in a God. I have read, studied, discussed and continue my "search for God." The first breakthrough was when I realized  that there could be a "spiritual god", up until then only thinking in terms of a "religious god." But that is a different story. Meanwhile I would like to share a number of "Love Poems from God" edited by Daniel Ladinsky 2002.Only a few of the poems spoke to me and I continue to contemplate them and document them here for you as well as for my future study.

Meister Eckhart (1260-1328) one of history's great mystics. He was a Catholic monk and scholar who often presented  his faith and spiritual understanding in sermons of stunning clarity, though the Catholic Church apparently feared his brilliance and was on the verge  of bringing him before a kind of intuition when he died.

LOVE DOES THAT

All day long a little burro labors, sometimes
with heavy loads on her back and sometimes just with worries
about things that bother only
burros.

And worries, as we know, can be more exhausting
than physical labor.

Once in a while a kind monk comes
to her stable and brings
a pear, but more
than that,

he looks into the burro's eyes and touches her ears

and for a few seconds the burro is free
and even seems to laugh,

because love does
that.

Love frees.
