Circus Mafia

Thanks to Amethel Parel-Sewell, I got to attend this circus performers shoot called Circus Mafia, at Fiesta Island in San Diego. It provided a unique event and subject that few people in the world get to photograph.

Forty or so photographers lined up to photograph a dozen or so performers taking turns demonstrating their abilities in "fire arts." Four to six performers at a time lined up in front of us while we set our shutter speed and aperature settings and photographed away to our hearts content. It became almost adictive waiting to see what we could get on the next shot.

The skills of the photographers ranged from beginner to advanced in a setting on the island that was away from city lights with no other distractions but the sand, the emptiness, and the opportunity.

To me it felt like I was at "Burning Man!" My photos range from snapshot, to abstratct, to etherial, to ghostly, to magical. See what you think!

  1. These are the most thought provoking and interesting photos I've ever seen. I kept saying WOW with each perspective shown. Truly enjoyed how the colors changed. Very magical. What a great job with the effects and I can imagine how amazing it must have been being there in person. Thanks for sharing. Loved them!
